Jacksons Lane Shotokan Karate Club
Membership
Membership of this friendly Shotokan Karate club is free and open to all.*
You are welcome
to come and observe a session without obligation to see if Karate meets
your needs. Additionally, your first Karate session is free!
Training session fees are just £3 for Adults and £2 for children.
More information on fees.
Please don't worry about feeling out of your depth or about being unduly held back in the sessions. After a joint warm up, Karate sessions divide, with one instructor for the less experienced in Karate and another for the higher Kyu and also Dan grades, you will normally train with students close to your own belt or grade.
We cater to martial arts students of a wide range of experience and ability from novice to Dan grade, the club runs two general Karate training sessions as well as a Junior training session and a Shotokan Kata session each week.

Younger Members
In the interests of health and safety, it is essential that Karate students are at least five years of age and have already attended school. At the age of five there exists a wide range of maturation and it is vital that young Karate students are able to satisfy their instructor as to their ability to understand and comply with basic instructions.
Personal Responsibility
Members accept responsibility for the safety and well being of their fellows as a matter of course. Less obviously, members need to accept responsibility for their own safety and security as they progress through the grades towards more vigorous Karate training activities: groin protectors are mandatory for males. In matters relating to personal protection equipment, club members may seek guidance as below.
Males - Sensei Robins
Females - Julia Hatherall
* Legalese:
As you would expect, commonsensical terms and conditions apply: Shotokan Karate is
a physical activity and the club will need to be assured that an applicant
is able to safely take part in club sessions without risk to self or to other
students. To this end, there is a section of the membership application form
which covers this.
After one month of membership, the member is obliged to apply for a licence
and to renew it annually. (Currently £15 pa.) Again, the same commonsensical
terms and conditions apply. Please note that these fees go to the association:
they are not retained by the Karate club.
